Formed in the 90’s, Thokozani brothers is an acapella adult male choir group working to make a difference in the lives of the youth in Cape Towns township of Khayelitsha (source: cape chameleon).
To help support the youth development project, Thokozani brothers contribute 20% of their ticket sales towards the cause . Their mission is to change the mindset of the township’s children and to provide the children with a positive environment so that they can be children (source: cape chameleon).
It was a pleasant surprise to watch the Thokozani brothers perform on the streets of Boulders Beach (famous for it’s African penguin colony) in Simon’s Town. Before visiting South Africa, I would dreamt of the chance to see LIVE performers, to feel the energy and vibrancy of their culture and arts.
I wasn’t fortunate enough to visit the townships of Cape Town (due to time constraints), which I must admit have had a reputation for not being the safest places for tourists to visit on their own. But if you have a similar passion for exploring deep into cultures and local communities then don’t miss out on your chance to tour Cape Town’s townships safely using any of the following Tour Groups I have mentioned below. Also point to note: The township of Khayelitsha, (the home of Thokozani Brothers Choir) is the largest township in Western Cape and many tour companies do offer tours there.
